Picadeli has achieved considerable success in the Finnish market in a short period. Since its launch in May 2023, the salad pioneer’s food-to-go range, which includes wraps, ready-made salads, and sandwiches, has been warmly received by Finnish consumers. Sales have surged from a few hundred units per week to nearly 25,000 wraps, 10,000 sandwiches, and 3,000 ready-made salads per week. Today, Picadeli is the market leader in the wrap category, with the range available at over 1,500 locations across Finland.
Starting from the academic year 2025/2026, Sweden plans to accept fruit support, the EU funding that entails Swedish schoolchildren receiving EU-financed fruit in school. "The proposal for school fruit support includes several key points, the most gratifying of which is that it reduces administrative complexity - and thereby provides more fruit to Sweden's schoolchildren," says David von Laskowski, CEO of Picadelis and Greenfood.
Picadeli continues its expansion across Europe, now present in 250 stores in Germany. "Germany represents enormous potential. Not only is it one of the world's largest economies, but it is also the most populous country in Europe. Bacteria that turn waste and leftovers into edible raw materials in completely new products - does it sound too good to be true? Not necessarily. Swedish food giant Greenfood and biotech company Tekinn have teamed up in a foodtech collaboration to give unutilized food a valuable new life through fermentation. The innovation project is part of the Circular Development Hub, funded by the EU and Region Skåne.
Kaisa Malmberg steps in as the new CEO of Satotukku Oy, part of the Greenfood Group. She comes most recently from the role of Commercial Director at Satotukku and takes over from Tomi Hakkarainen, who has been CEO of the leading Finnish fruit and vegetable company since 1998. Kaisa will begin her new position on June 1.
Greenfood announces the appointment of Martin Asp as the new Chief Financial Officer. He will succeed Mattias Engberg, who has decided to move on after a successful decade with the company. Martin Asp, with extensive international experience, will join Greenfood’s executive team and is set to assume his new role on 5 August 2024.
Greenfood's annual report for 2023 has been released and is now available on the group's website. Despite a turbulent macroeconomic environment, in 2023, Greenfood delivered its highest sales and earnings ever. The group's total net sales for the fiscal year 2023 amounted to SEK 5,687.2 million, an increase of 8.6 percent compared to 2022. Adjusted EBITDA rose to SEK 311.4 million — a 42.2 percent increase.
Picadeli's expansion into the American market continues. With a new agreement with Weis Markets, Picadeli will open salad bars in the chain's stores in a dozen cities in the Northeastern USA over the coming weeks. This move solidifies owner Greenfood's presence in the U.S. food landscape.
2023 was a record year for Greenfood. The group has reduced greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) per ton of food sold by a significant 60.2 percent (baseline year 2020), thus aligning with the group's ambitious reduction targets for 2025.
Greenfood is continuing its rapid expansion of the Picadeli salad bar brand in the USA. A new agreement with the food conglomerate Coborn’s means that Picadeli’s AI-driven salad bars will be established in several Coborn’s stores in the American Midwest.
